Wayne R. Dynes (23. august 1934 - slutten av juli 2021) var en amerikansk kunsthistoriker, leksikon og bibliograf. Han var professor emeritus ved kunstavdelingen ved Hunter College , hvor han underviste fra 1972 til 2005.

Dynes tilbrakte de første årene i Sør -California, hvor han gikk på UCLA og tok sin BA i 1969. Etter lengre opphold i Italia og England bosatte han seg permanent på Manhattan , hvor han fikk sin doktorgrad. fra Institute of Fine Arts ved New York University . Temaet for avhandlingen hans var den opplyste Stavelot-bibelen fra det ellevte århundre fra Belgia. Utdannelsen hans som middelalder ga den grunnleggende kjernen i collegeundervisningen, først ved Columbia , deretter ved Hunter College.

I løpet av 1960 -årene var Dynes medlem av Mattachine Society of New York. Han var i Europa på tidspunktet for Stonewall -opprøret i Greenwich Village i juni 1969. Etter retur i 1973 samarbeidet han med Jack Stafford, en bibliotekar, for å arbeide med en av mange bibliografier om homofile studier. Denne interessen ga til slutt hans Homoseksualitet: A Research Guide (1987), etterfulgt av hans arbeid som sjefredaktør for to-bind Encyclopedia of Homosexuality (Garland, 1990).
