This sample seems incorrect if this is supposed to be the IPA symbol for pinyin x (which according to every source i managed to find on the internet, it is the symbol). The current sample sounds much closer to pinyin sh, hence would be very misleading for anyone who tries to learn how to pronounce Chinese.

This unofficial website has pronunciation sample for this sound, and that's how pinyin x sounds to me. http://www.internationalphoneticalphabet.org/ipa-sounds/ipa-chart-with-sounds/

Agree, it does not match the sound of the Chinese example we see on the page for Voiceless alveolo-palatal fricative where this is included: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Zh-Xi%27an.ogg
