William Edward Leuchtenburg (født 28. september 1922) er William Rand Kenan Jr. professor emeritus i historie ved University of North Carolina i Chapel Hill . Han er en ledende forsker i livet og karrieren til Franklin Delano Roosevelt .

Karriere

Leuchtenburg ble født i New York City 28. september 1922. I Ken Burns ' dokumentarserie Prohibition beskrev han, da han var barn, hvordan faren ble rapportert for å drive et ulovlig destilleri under forbudstiden . Han mottok sin BA -grad i 1943 fra Cornell University , hvor han ble hentet inn i Phi Beta Kappa Society. Senere fikk han sin doktorgrad fra Columbia University i 1951.

Han vant 2007 North Carolina Award for Literature.

Han fungerte som programkonsulent for Ken Burns ' dokumentarserie Prohibition , som hadde premiere på PBS i oktober 2011.
